Control Guns, Not Women’s Bodies

As most of you who follow me on social media know, I am incredibly passionate about the social issues facing us as women and as a greater community of human beings. I feel as though I’d be deeply remised to not utilize my platform to continue to advocate for the issues facing us a society. I have never been one to hide my politics, which at times has come at the expense of my popularity. However, I feel it is more important then ever to use our voices collectively to help raise awareness and create change. As the growing number of issues I take umbrage with continues to rise, I am left to my thoughts and (sometimes) despair, as to how we have gotten to this place. From women’s rights, to basic civil rights and the welfare of our neighbors both in the US and outside our borders, the corner stones of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, seem to be under attack. It’s hard enough to fight the world around us, but I often feel as though we are under attack from the very government that is here to protect us. When did politicians lose their focus on who they were elected to represent? Why have we taken so many steps back? How can we not come together to agree on seemingly obvious issues – like that a child has the right to go to school, get an education and not risk that by sitting in that classroom they may be massacred before graduation because our gun control policy is too lenient? Can both sides not agree that “the right to bare arms” should not come before the right to be safe? Is there no sensible compromise that incorporates common sense gun policy? How are we really divided over this issue? Yet, ironically, a women’s right to choose what she does with her body is susceptible to federal law. If the unborn fetus was sitting in a classroom, would congress then find power to fight against the gun lobbyists? I know it sounds ridiculous and grotesque, but unfortunately, this is where I find my mind wondering. I can only hope that the majority of us, will push forward, elect officials who share our beliefs and want a safer America, where all people are created equal. Until then, I will be mixing my love of fashion with my passion for social and political reform.     Photography By: Rosalie Agency Disclothed It To Me: Dimepiece Control Guns Black Tee*, J Brand High Waist Wide Leg Pants *Similar Styles
